Shorinkan – What it?
Shorinkan is a organization created by Sensei Shugoro Nakazato in the early 1970’s to promote and teach what he had learned from his study of Okinawan Shorin-ryu and Kobudo.
He had taken over 300 years of Karate development and knowledge, specifically in Okinawan Shorin-ryu ( KobayashiTe ).
Shorin-ryu is the name given to the martial art Sensei Chosin Chibana taught, it was a way to destinguish it from what others were teaching, he did this in 1933. Prior to this it was simply called Shuri-te.
Sensei Chibana’s teacher was Anko Itosu who learned directly from Matsumura Sokon. Matsumura Sokon was not only the bodyguard to the kings of Okinawa, but was also a great warrior, considered by many to be the Okinawan equivalent of Miyamoto Musashi.
