Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Terminology

It is expected that every Shorin-ryu Shorinkan student know certain japanese words and the meaning of each. The full terminology page is provided for you to download.  It is organized in an easy to learn formate.

The left side of the column has the English word, the Japanese word is on the right.
Students are fist told to study the first 6 words:

  1. High -> Jodan
  2. Middle -> Chudan
  3. Low -> Geddan
  4. Side -> Yoko
  5. Back -> Ushiro
  6. Front -> Mae

After the student has learned these the next words to learn are in bold:

  1. Block -> Uke
  2. Punch -> Zuki
  3. Kick -> Geri
  4. Stance(s) -> Dachi

Ather these 4 are learned  the Punches, Kicks and Blocks can be combined by prepending one of the three first words they previously learned:  For example: Prepending Jodan to the work Zuki produces Jodan Zuki, or High Punch
